Conventional white good appliances dominated the kitchen space! This was mostly due to the need for quick and usually ready-made meals as most/all adult occupants of the house were working. The dishwasher played its role as it assisted in the washing up of dishes as much work was also carried into home time.
Some homes were taking on ideas from the US and UK by using Atriums and Conservatories to further connect with the outdoors. These rooms however were often unused as the typical "Aussie Lifestyle" was not accustom to living indoors and looking out at the landscape, it was more about being outside and connecting the inside with the out. These rooms often became hot as well due to the Australian climate and there both lack of ventilation and vast windows which trapped the heat inside the room.
